The Gestapo and SS are the two secret police forces working for hitler during the holacaust and WW1. In 1933 the Nazis took control of Germany and that was when the Gestapo all started. It was being run by a Nazi named Goring. At this time the other police force called the SS were being ruled by Heinrich Himmler. In 1936 Himmler became in charge of the Gestapo as well as the SS. Later in 1936 the Gestapo came together with the Kriminalpolizei, the criminal police.(Jewish Vrtual Library)
During WW2 the Gestapo were in charge of guarding the ghettos, the area where the Jewish were held captive. The Gestapo were taught many torturing skills during the time they invaded Russia. During the March of 1933, the Gestapo were given the power to arrest any person that seemed as if they were going to do something bad. This rule gave the Gestapo much power over the civilians. If you were arrested you had to sign a contract called the D-11, a contract that stated u will go to prison. Once you sign it you will be sent to a consentration camp until you supposedly "learned your lesson" then u will be freed.(Nazi Police State, Jewish Virtual State)
